Here's my random idea for October: Smartphone enabled dispensing labels.
A pharmacy dispensing computer system is set up to print dispensing labels that include QR codes (which are like 3-d barcodes and can be easily generated to encode any text)
This QR code can be decoded by many free barcode readers for smartphones. Here I'm using my Android phone, but iPhones work just as well
The QR code encodes a string of text. If it's a website address, many barcode readers will give the end user the option of visiting the website
This URL links directly to a website giving information about the drugs. Which website depends on who the label is being generated for.
This website gives information about the capsules for health professionals, but it could be a patient information leaflet or other source of information for the patient
So an easy way to enable people to access information about their drugs by using the smartphone to scan the dispensing label. What do you think?
